Newcastle striker Michael Owen out for up to six weeks
It was initially feared that Owen had broken a bone in his ankle and could be facing over three months out of action so, despite the serious loss, the prognosis brought a small degree of good cheer to a club desperate for an upturn in fortune.

Owen limped off 19 minutes into the match at Eastlands after falling awkwardly on his left ankle following an aerial challenge.

Newcastle suffered a further injury concern when Joey Barton damaged a metatarsal in the same match. Both injuries put further pressure on Kinnear and his team, who face Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday.

“We will be without Michael now for between four and six weeks,” Kinnear said.

“It’s a big blow and the injuries are mounting up

“Joey Barton is also missing for about 10 weeks but we have to soldier on and put out the best team we can.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle today confirmed the £4 million signing of Bolton midfielder Kevin Nolan.

The 26-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at St James’ Park bringing to an end a 10-year association with Bolton where he was captain.

“When I heard there was a chance of getting Kevin I was determined we would pull out all of the stops to bring him here,” Kinnear said.

Kinnear also confirmed that Shay Given’s representatives have been given permission to talk to Manchester City about personal terms for a prospective contract, though a transfer fee has yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

Again bad news :(

Why the hell can't he just end with a black eye or a broken wrist, for Pete's sake?!

And that is the worse possible time. I was sure that would happen because he has to show other clubs that he's worth the money, he can play at the highest level and can be injury free and bang! Breaks his ankle! <_<

He will never get out of the fast sinking desert of everything Newcastle is becoming

Did you know that in that fight that broke up between two players while training, as a captain he tried to separate them and was punched quite hard by one of them?! I was fuming!! I can't believe Newcastle just got over such a thing like nothing happenedimage

My Mini Mike is back!! :D And he’s hunkier and more handsome than ever!

And (again!) he’s back with some sensible sized shorts. He doesn’t look like he borrowed his big brother’s kit anymore ^_^

Newcastle Utd footballers both past and present stars, Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, look more than ready to bet on the races as they arrive at the Cheltenham Gold Cup via helicopter. Owen has 'Racing Post' in hand. Cheltenham, UK. 11/03/2009

I think he has three horses racing and one won something. God, I’m useless! :P
