The draw hands Reds a chance to avenge last season’s semi-final defeat to Chelsea
Liverpool and Chelsea will meet for the 23rd and 24th time in the last five seasons following the held in Nyon, Switzerland. 
Amazingly, the two teams have also been drawn together in each of their last four Champions League campaigns. Last season Liverpool lost to Chelsea after extra-time at Stamford Bridge in the semi-finals of Europe’s top club competition. The teams drew 1-1 at Anfield as Riise scored an own-goal with almost the last kick of the game. In the return-leg the Blues were leading 1-0, but up-popped Fernando to drew the Merseysiders level and send the game in extra-time. The Londoners however squeezed past the Reds to qualify for the final in Moscow; where they lost out to Manchester United.
UEFA have confirmed that Liverpool will not have to play their second leg on the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough. It will be played at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, April 14 - a day before the anniversary of 96 fans losing their lives. The first leg will take place at Anfield on Wednesday, April 8.
Fernando Torres’ team have their sights set on a place in the final which will be held on Wednesday 27 May at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, a stadium that has proved lucky for the Merseysiders’ in the past. Liverpool won the 1977 final there against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and repeated the feat seven years later against local team Roma on penalties.
Liverpool are the most successful team remaining in the Champions League. The five-time champions knocked-out the tournament’s nine-time winners Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate, whilst seven-time winners AC Milan did not qualify for this season’s event.
Should the Reds beat Chelsea, they'll face either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, with the first leg away and the return-leg at Anfield.
