Real Madrid Step Up Pursuit Of Xabi Alonso
Despite Rafael Benitez's insistence that the 27-year-old is not for sale this summer, newly re-appointed Perez is confident that negotiations will go in his favour.
Perez is hoping that Real could end up signing Alonso for around £20m by including Negredo as part of the package to lure the Spanish midfielder to the Bernabeu.
Sport on television Negredo, who currently plays for Almeria, carries a price tag of £12 million but, as a product of the Real youth system, he would cost the Spanish side just £4.4m based on an existing buy-back clause.
It is thought that Real would then use Negredo as a bargaining tool in which to negotiate a deal for Alonso.
Benitez is understood to be interested in Negredo having sent Liverpool scouts to monitor his progress in recent months. And the 19-goal striker himself has not denied the possibility of a move.
"I've not spoken with Benitez but I know some contact exists between the clubs," he said. "To play next to Fernando Torres at Anfield is a dream."
Should a player-plus-cash deal materialise it would provide Benitez with enough disposable cash to look towards landing other big names on his list.
It is widely expected that the Spaniard will reignite his pursuit of Gareth Barry - a player he chased so publicly last summer and who is said to have caused tensions between Benitez and Alonso.
PSG's Stephane Sessegnon, Portsmouth's Glen Johnson and Valencia winger David Silva are also on the Merseyside list of targets.
But for now at least Benitez remains true to his word that big names will not be leaving Anfield.
"The situation is clear," he said. "We do not want to sell our best players and that includes Xabi.
"He's had a very good season for us and can be an important player in the future - there is no agreement with Real and we want him to be part of our plans going forward."
Perez has made no secret of his intentions to spend big for Real this summer. Earlier in the week he emphasised the need for the club to return to the 'Galacticos' era and bring in a new batch of world famous names.
David Villa, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo sit alongside Alonso on Perez's list of targets. His first unveiling however is expected this week in the form of Manuel Pellegrini as the club's new coach.
